Our Story

Aminta was born on a cold January night in a bar located in the second floor the winding Pontocho alleys of Kyoto. I was sitting with two friends talking about all amazing Japanese skincare and suddenly it hit me: there are so many amazing products in this whole wide world, why should I be limited to the beauty brands available in the United States? What happened to all of the local brands that I find every time I travel to a new country? The smokey resin perfumes of Mexico, the luffa (絲瓜) toners of Taiwan? 

I want to bring all of the cool, local brands and stories that I found while I traisped around the world to America and to send it to all my friends. A love letter from my travels. Every brand would spark a new discovery, a revelation that there is more than just what is exposed to us. It is difficult to see what is beyond our paradigms without being about to experience it with our own senses. To touch it, to feel it, to breathe it in. Like the first gust of air after stepping off the plane, our products should envelop you in a intoxicating bubble of a new culture and a new worldview. We are surrounded with a world that is increasingly algorythmically driven and boring, bland and blah. We consistently see copies of copies, every copy more lossy and more degraded than the one before. 

My goal with Aminta is to bring you stories of how people in different cultures live. What their rituals and traditions are, what ingrediants they use, how they think about beauty. Beauty is something so intimate and cultural, I find it fascinating to see how other people experience it. As humans, we move, we explore, we discover, we take risks and we change. I hope that Aminta can create a small spark of that emotion for you. Thank you for visiting!
